Beware! Don't travel in waitlist tickets, save yourself from humiliation
An advice to railway passengers planning to travel with waitlist tickets. Don’t do or try to do the same in the next journey in any train of Indian Railways. The officials of Railway in a statement to media said that waitlisted passengers are adviced not to travel in the reserved compartments as this leads to inconvenience to passengers with confirmed tickets and overcrowding of compartments. Although the decision taken recently is likely to invite ire of travelers as the bookings are often full within a few days of opening but there is no any alternate. The passengers travelling with waitlisted tickets along with paying fine have to get down of the train in the next railway station.
Until now, unconfirmed e-tickets were considered invalid, while passengers with waitlist tickets were allowed to travel in reserved compartments. Railway officials said though the rule has been in place for long, it was not implemented strictly by the administration. The passengers with unconfirmed tickets should travel in general compartments and refrain from entering reserved compartments, they added. According to officials, the rationale behind implementing the rule is to avoid inconvenience to passengers who have confirmed tickets.
